What is the

Youth United Leadership Program?

The YU Leadership Program serves the dual purpose of student involvement in community service and fund-raising.  It is a vehicle for young people to demonstrate their leadership skills through interaction in community service projects, organized meetings and analytical challenges.  Youth United also encourages scholarship and academics.

The concept of youth philanthropy in Okaloosa County received its conception under the direction of Dr. Alexis Tibbetts, Superintendent for the Okaloosa County School District along with Harrison Freeman, a Fort Walton Beach High School Student.  United Way of Okaloosa & Walton Counties was selected to coordinate this program due to its long history of promoting and supporting volunteerism as a vital community resource.

Youth United has partnered with Troy University, the Okaloosa County School District and area Chambers of Commerce to provide a summer youth leadership institute.  The Youth Leadership & Community Focus Institute will educate youth on the building blocks of developing financial stability through college and beyond.  Students will receive a curriculum designed to help them reach their potential, which includes: business etiquette, community appreciation, public speaking, local and global issues that affect economy, and developing a well-rounded, business savvy person who will eventually compete in a local or global market and give back to the community.
