Building a Brighter Future
For the Osbourn family, providing for their family of five meant balancing work, parenting, and the rising cost of child care. Like many ALICE families, they were working hard, but so much of their income was going toward child care that it became difficult to get ahead.
Thanks to United Way Emerald Coast funding and community partners, the Osbourn family received child care assistance, giving them the stability they needed to keep moving forward.
"This has helped my family so much," Mrs. Osbourn shared. "With how expensive everything is nowadays, it often feels like we're working just to afford child care. Without support like this, many families, including mine, wouldn't be able to make it."
For ALICE families, affordable child care is more than a convenience. It provides the stability parents need to stay employed while giving children a safe, nurturing place to learn, grow, and thrive.

Inspiring Tomorrow's Innovators
Waylon has been loving the hands-on activities and experiments at a United Way Emerald Coast-funded program. From coding to robotics, every lesson has sparked his curiosity and encouraged him to explore new possibilities.
When asked which activity was his favorite, Waylon's answer said it all: "I can't pick! I like all of them!" Robotics has become a particular passion, and the experience has inspired him to dream even bigger. When asked if the program increased his interest in STEAM, he didn't hesitate. "Yes, it has! I want to go to a STEM middle school now!"
Like many children in ALICE families, Waylon is full of potential. Opportunities like these help ensure barriers don't stand in the way of learning, exploration, and discovery. Today, Waylon is building confidence, discovering a passion for STEAM, and imagining a future filled with possibility.

More Than a Meal
Meet Mr. Young.
Like many older adults in our community, Mr. Young benefits from a United Way Emerald Coast-funded program that provides nutritious meals and friendly visits to neighbors ages 55 and older.
While cooking isn't his specialty, he's quick to joke that he'd much rather fix your car instead. His sense of humor and warm personality remind us that every meal delivered is about more than food. It's about making sure our neighbors know someone cares.
For many ALICE seniors, rising costs can make it difficult to afford nutritious meals while remaining independent. A reliable meal and a friendly conversation can make all the difference, helping older adults stay healthy, connected, and living safely in their own homes.

Welcoming a Brighter Future
Megan and Jio were preparing to welcome their first child when they suddenly found themselves without a safe place to live. After being asked to leave, the young couple faced an uncertain future with no stable housing, no income, and a baby on the way.
Like many ALICE families, they weren't looking for a handout. They simply needed a helping hand while they worked toward stability.
Thanks to United Way Emerald Coast funding and community partners, the family found a safe place to stay. Jio quickly secured a job, advanced to a better position, and Megan gave birth to a healthy baby. Together, they were able to save money, plan for the future, and rebuild their lives.
Today, the family has moved into stable housing. Their story is a reminder that when ALICE families receive support during life's toughest moments, they can move beyond crisis and build a stronger future.
Every Story Starts with Hope
Every ALICE story is different, but they all begin with the same determination: hardworking people doing everything they can to provide for themselves and their families. Whether it's a parent struggling with the cost of child care, a child discovering a new passion, a young family rebuilding after a crisis, or a senior striving to remain healthy and independent, every story reminds us that the right support at the right time can change a life.
When donors invest in United Way Emerald Coast, they invest in more than programs. They invest in people. Together with our community partners, we're helping ALICE families move from surviving to thriving by creating pathways to stability, opportunity, and hope.
United is the Way.
